Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI)
OSPI is the primary agency charged with overseeing K-12 education in Washington State. The OSPI website is a key resource for all information pertaining to both K-12 and higher education in the state of Washington, with relevant information on teaching, learning, curriculum, assessment, certification, community outreach, digital education and general administration.
Washington Educator Skills Test-Basic
This new basic skills assessment is required of all applicants to Washington-approved teacher preparation programs and persons from out of state applying for a Washington State residency teaching certificate. The basic skills areas included in the assessment are reading, mathematics, and writing.
Washington Education Association
The WEA is Washington State's largest public employee labor organization representing nearly 70,000 school and college employees. The website contains a jobline, information on member benefits, professional development, WEA field offices and assorted articles on education in Washington State.
Higher Education Coordinating Board
The Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board or "HEC Board" is a nine-member board of citizens, appointed by the governor. The board represents the public interest in the development of higher education policy including the administration of state-funded student financial aid. Its website includes information on the most recent financial aid programs in Washington State, including GET: Guaranteed Education Tuition. Information on national financial aid programs is also included.
Professional Educator Standards Board
The Professional Educator Standards Board was created in July of 2000 to address policies and practices affecting Washington State's certified education professionals. The website contains information about the new Alternative Routes to teacher certification.
Project TEACH
In collaboration with K12 and University partners, Project TEACH provides seamless pathways to a teaching career. Project TEACH is committed to offering exemplary pre-service and in-service training for K12 teachers and to modeling a commitment to best practices and innovation in teacher education.
Washington Center for Teaching Careers
Washington Center for Teaching Careers (WATeach) was established by Washington State Department of Education to recruit qualified individuals to the teaching profession in order to alleviate the shortage of credential teachers in Washington. WATeach is a one-stop information and referral recruitment center for individuals who may be interested in a teaching career. WATeach offers a variety of informational and advisor-assisted services to prospective teachers.
State Board of Education
The State Board of Education is Washington's main education policy making body. The website contains information on the current issues before the board as well as policies and state codes pertaining to graduation requirements, the certificate of mastery, basic education assistance, recent board resolutions and various application forms.

Washington State's nine Educational Service Districts (ESDs) are listed below. The ESDs are responsible for providing cooperative and informational services to local school districts, assisting the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education in the performance of their respective statutory and constitutional duties, and providing services to school districts to assure equal educational opportunities for all students.

The U.S. Department of Education website includes the most up to date information on national education news and initiatives, education grants, financial assistance, research and statistics, job openings and publications.
National Association of State Boards of Education
The National Association of State Boards of Education represents state and territorial boards of education. The website contains policy updates on state education.
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an independent, nonprofit organization seeking to advance both student learning and the teacher profession. The website includes updated information on National Board Certification and other professional development issues in the field of teaching.
National Center for Teacher Education
The National Center for Teacher Education provides leadership for PreK-12 teacher education through the development of programs and services that support teacher recruitment, preparation and retention locally, nationally and internationally.
National Education Association
NEA is America's oldest and largest organization committed to advancing the cause of public education. Founded in 1857 in Philadelphia and now headquartered in Washington, D.C., NEA proudly claims more than 2.5 million members who work at every level of education, from pre-school to university graduate programs. NEA has affiliates in every state as well as in over 13,000 local communities across the United States.
